RED CARDS

 

As we close out one of the most challenging weeks in our District’s history, and prepare for a new presidential administration, we want to reaffirm the District’s unwavering commitment to the well-being and education of all students, particularly regarding their rights to access and receive education regardless of their immigration status. 
 
We believe it is crucial to provide our students and families with clear and accessible information about their legal rights. The District will be distributing Red Cards with vital information about their rights starting Tuesday, January 21. 
 
We know this may be a difficult time for many, and we are committed to supporting the safety of our entire Los Angeles Unified community on or off campus. 

We look forward to welcoming all of our students so they can continue building on their momentum inside safe, supportive classrooms where everyone is welcome, and where diversity is celebrated and embraced.

 

Al cerrar una de las semanas más desafiantes en la historia de nuestro Distrito y nos preparamos para una nueva administración presidencial, queremos reafirmar el compromiso inquebrantable del Distrito con el bienestar y la educación de todos los estudiantes, especialmente en lo que respecta a su derecho de acceso y recibir educación independientemente de su estatus migratorio. 

 

Creemos que es fundamental proporcionar a nuestros estudiantes y familias información clara y accesible sobre sus derechos legales. El martes 21 de enero, el Distrito comenzará la distribución de Tarjetas Rojas con información vital sobre sus derechos. 

 

Entendemos que este puede ser un momento difícil para muchos y estamos comprometidos en apoyar la seguridad de toda nuestra comunidad del Distrito Unificado de Los Ángeles dentro o fuera de los planteles. 

 

Esperamos dar la bienvenida a todos nuestros estudiantes de regreso a clases para que puedan continuar desarrollando su avance dentro de aulas seguras y de apoyo donde todos son bienvenidos, y donde la diversidad es celebrada y aceptada.

 

You have constitutional rights:
DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR if an immigration agent is knocking on the door.
DO NOT ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS from an immigration agent if they try to talk to you. You have the right to remain silent. 
DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING without first speaking to a lawyer. You have the right to speak with a lawyer.
If you are outside of your home, ask the agent if you are free to leave and if they say yes, leave calmly.
GIVE THIS CARD TO THE AGENT. If you are inside of your home, show the card through the window or slide it under the door.

Usted tiene derechos constitucionales:
NO ABRA LA PUERTA si un agente de inmigración está tocando la puerta. 
NO CONTESTE NINGUNA PREGUNTA de un agente de inmigración si el trata de hablar con usted. Usted tiene derecho de mantenerse.
NO FIRME NADA sin antes hablar con un abogado. Usted tiene el derecho de hablar con un abogado. 
Si usted está afuera de su casa, pregunte al agente si es libre para irse y si dice que sí, váyase con tranquilidad.
ENTREGUE ESTA TARJETA AL AGENTE. Si usted está dentro de su casa, muestre la tarjeta por la ventana o pásela debajo de la puerta.
